Janie's Wardrobe, from Day to Night
By Tuckernuck on
In the doldrums of winter, we're always looking for some fresh, colorful wear-now outfit inspiration. This is why we turned to our friend Janie, interior decorator, mom of two, and Tuckernuck customer for some cold-weather dressing ideas. See how she goes from casual coffee with her son to cocktail party with her hubby, easily mixing her native California relaxed style with a little New York City twist. With her tack-sharp wit and effortless, classic style, spending a weekend with Janie actually made us excited for a few more wintery months.
For a morning at home, I keep things simple with tailored jeans or pants, cozy sweaters for winter, and pretty blouses or button downs for fall and spring. I love this light blue sweater because it is pretty and feminine, unfussy and comfortable.
I grew up in a suburb of Los Angeles and then went to college in North Carolina so winter in the North East required me to make some wardrobe changes. I've been working on my collection of outerwear and cold weather attire since moving to New York! Other than that, I have always been a jeans and button down kind of girl and that has really never changed.
When I graduated from college I did event planning and sales and marketing for Starwood Hotels. I knew that when I “grew up” I wanted to be a decorator so when I moved to New York I got settled and then took some classes at the New York School of Interior Design. I did an internship at Kemble Interiors, worked as an assistant at Fawn Galli Interiors and then found my dream job at Shostak and Company in 2012.
A striped breton is one of my daytime go-tos, and I love blazers, so this combo was a natural one for me. I also love scarves in all shapes, colors and sizes and am always happy to throw one one for a little extra fun. I love Laughing Man Coffee, and it's in the neighborhood so I am always sure to bump into a friend.
A peplum? A cozy sweater? BOTH?? Yes please! This sweater is just a little slice of chic heaven. It would be great with jeans and a loafer during the day and is equally lovely with these grey velvety fine wale corduroys. A nude colored pump is always a safe bet and this grey / cream / beige color story feels polished and pretty to me.
This restaurant Yves around the corner from our apartment is my go-to spot for an easy dinner or drinks. They are so nice, it's super cozy, and the food is not fussy but so delicious.
I love long sleeved dresses. They are so versatile. This Saloni dress is pretty and ladylike and can go to luncheons during the day, a girlfriend's birthday party or even a cocktail party. I can wear it with a pointed toe flat, a pump or a fun sandal like I chose here for a more glamorous look. And if you're feeling fancy well then a little fur (faux or real) never hurts!
