Sophie's Caribbean Packing List

By Tuckernuck on

Our Creative Director, Sophie, is no stranger to island living. Born and raised in the Virgin Islands, going home for her means a weekend trip to the Caribbean. This is why we turned to her for advice and inspiration for how to pack a carry-on sized wardrobe that doesn't skimp on style. Check out her ten essentials for her recent trip home to St. Thomas.

For this (and every) trip, I pack pieces I know I can mix and match. These 10 pieces carried me from the beach to dinner and everywhere in between: 1. Straw clutch 2. Straw tote 3. A neutral day shoe 4. A neutral heel 5. Striped popover 6. A floral top 7. A matching floral skirt 8. Straw hat 9. White statement earrings 10. Tortoise sunnies.

On this night out, this off-the-shoulder top was a fun pop of pattern with white pants and neutral accessories.

One evening, my sister hosted an al-fresco meal in her palm-filled backyard overlooking the ocean. I mixed it up with stripes and florals (and so did her pretty place settings).

For a day on the boat, this striped popover, straw hat, and tasseled tote were all I needed (plus lots of SPF).

For a dinner party at my parents house, I paired this patterned top with its matching skirt. That's the great thing about matching separates on vacation... wear them together, wear them apart... you've got a lot of options!

At happy hour with friends, this popover tunic was an easy, breezy option. I usually carry a clutch in a bigger bag, so if the afternoon flows into evening, I can ditch the tote and easily transition.

Two of the most important things to pack on a Caribbean vacation are a great hat and polarized sunglasses. This hat fit right into my carry on and maintained its shape nicely!
