Maddy And Sophie's Maternity Style

December 20th, 2019

As we start to have families of our own, we thought it might be helpful to talk maternity style. It’s tough getting dressed and feeling comfortable when your body is transforming in ways you’d never imagine. At 7 and 9 months pregnant, our Creative Director and Co-Founder share some tips on how to navigate pregnancy dressing and stay positive during 9 months of change.

My number one tip: give yourself a break. Remember that nothing is permanent, and be grateful every day!

Dressing this new and different body has proven challenging, especially as a former devotee of mostly waist-accentuating looks (not so possible anymore). But once I stopped resisting the changes, I realized I actually love showing off this bump. I’m in awe of the way the body does this magical thing. What a precious time- why not embrace it?

MADDY AND SOPHIE'S MATERNITY STYLE TIPS:

1. Accessories: Invest in accessories to add some interest to the basic pieces you will wear on repeat and surely get sick of. A scarf, headband, funky shoes and a bag will go a long way.

2. Dresses: Flowy dresses will become your best friend.

3. Good Layers: A long blazer or cardigan is the perfect layer to a basic dress or over a fitted tee and denim.

4. Long Tops: It’s all about length, especially in the 3rd trimester, the longer the top the better.

5. Maternity Pants: Get a couple of good pairs of maternity denim. Madewell, Shopbop and A Pea in the Pod are great for designer maternity denim.

6. Loungewear: Don’t forget comfortable loungewear! A nice pair of joggers or a jumpsuit from Hatch as well as maternity sleepwear from Lake Pajamas are worth buying.
