Our Creative Director Sophia recently got married on St. John in her home town of the US Virgin Islands. While she and her husband Adam live in Washington, DC, Adam’s home town, they celebrated in their version of island style, which meant blue and white accents, a sunset sail, Soca music, pelicans, palms, and an evening that ended knee-deep in the Caribbean Sea. Here, she explains every detail, from her invitations all the way to the after party.

WELCOME TO ST. JOHN

The Stationery

The stationery set featured pelicans and a nautical map

The Location

The wedding took place at Caneel Bay Resort on St. John.

The Gift Bags

The gift bags featured local root beer and rum to make a cocktail upon arrival.

The Gift Bags

A little snack and a schedule also went into the gift bags.

" We chose Caneel Bay Resort on St. John as the venue for its timeless beauty and understated charm. It’s pretty clear that we love blue, so the invitations and welcome bags echoed the soothing color! "

THE REHEARSAL DINNER

The Bride And Groom

Sophie and Adam are all smiles on the bow.

Tuckernuck Girls

Maddy and September prepare to board.

Sunset Sail

Guests enjoyed cocktails as the sun set.

Jump In

Sophie and all guests get their feet wet.

" Prior to the rehearsal dinner, we took a sunset sail with the wedding party and family. The captain beached the catamaran in front of the rehearsal venue, and we made the guests get their feet a little wet (sorry)! As you can tell, I’m happiest when knee deep in the Caribbean Sea. "

Centerpieces

The centerpieces featured vibrant pink flowers.

We also added in some greenery.

" The seated dinner at Rhumb Lines was very low key. At this cute, Caribbean restaurant tucked away in a charming garden, we enjoyed tropical cocktails, fresh fish, and local flowers. "

GETTING READY

Almost Ready

The bride in a Marigot nightshirt and her rose flower crown.

Bridesmaids Gifts

The girls all got a french basket, a gold bangle, and Marigot pjs.

The Finishing Touches

The bride ties her shoes. The simple gold bangle her mom also wore down the aisle.

The Bouquet

The simple white and green bouquet of garden roses and fresias.

" All my ladies got monogrammed Marigot nightshirts, a French basket, and a simple Asha gold bangle. I love gold bangles, and I wanted them to mix the piece in with their own jewelry. I still spot my bridesmaids wearings them! "

THE CEREMONY

" Adam’s suit was custom made in D.C. by Read Wall, and his and the groomsmen’s ties are from my favorite tie company, Trumbull Rhodes. I can’t get enough Liberty of London. It must run through my veins... My mom’s bridesmaids wore Liberty dresses. "

THE RECEPTION

THE LOCATION

The reception decor.

TABLE CARDS

An eclectic etagere.

THE NEWLYWEDS

The new couple share a moment.

THE CENTERPIECES

A neutral mix of garden roses.

" The reception took place in the Estate House, an open-air room with grand arches and stone walls. We took baskets and hung them upside down for makeshift lanterns. "

" After the reception, we all danced down to a nearby secluded beach for a silent disco. If you’ve never silent discoed, I’m not going to try to explain, but let me just say it was magical! We ended the festivities as we started them, knee-deep in the Caribbean Sea. "
