1. The Cashmere Turtleneck

Made out of buttery cashmere, this dress goes seamlessly from a day at the office to dinner out. Elevate the look with heeled boots, or cinch your waist with a suede or leather belt to add some definition. For something unexpected and dressier, drape a scarf over your shoulders.

2. The Mod Mini

The Vivianne is a go-to day dress. Style it for the fall with a mule or ballet flat and transition into the colder months with boots. Carry what you need for the day in a tote.

3. The Cable Knit Mini

Cable knit is a signature element of heritage style. Chocolate is the color of the season, so pair it with warm brown accessories for a tonal look. For weekends in the country, finish with an oversized Barbour jacket.

4. The Ribbed Henley

In a flattering, fitted ribbed knit, this sweater dress is a staple that’s office and date-night ready. A thin layer that you can wear with a blazer and boots, you’ll want it in every color. Unbutton it and style it like a duster with jeans and a tee underneath.

5. The Collared Knit

This under-$200 sweater dress is the easy, throw-on-and-go dress you’ll wear all season long. Taking inspiration from our best-selling Callahan shirt dress, it’s a go-to for casual weekends, game days, and everyday wear.

6. The Sweater Set

A sweater dress set always looks put together with very little effort. The Marie dress and the matching Liv cardigan do all the work, so you just need to finish the look are some heels or boots. It’s a set that you’ll wear as the seasons change—especially in this on-trend icy blue hue.

7. The Dressy Maxi

A fit-and-flare maxi with puffed shoulders, the Brielle is a classic, feminine sweater dress that transitions easily from day to night. In a deep burgundy, this sweater dress looks great on its own or styled with a Western-inspired belt and silver jewelry.

Complete the Look

Add a Scarf

Tie a scarf around your shoulders, wrap it around your waist, or put it in your hair for a finishing touch.

Belt It Out

Everything’s better with a belt—a Western or wide leather (or suede) style is a smart investment.

Wear Your Boots

Opt for flats or sneakers with a mini sweater dress, but all styles look best with tall, heeled boots.

Play With Statement Studs

Face framing studs bring structure and definition to your whole look. Pick earrings in classic metals for the most timeless take.

Try a Longer Statement Necklace

Longer necklaces are very on-trend. If you opt for a necklace, hold off on the statement stud and go with gold hoops instead.

Put on Outerwear

Play with a leather vest, suede fringe coat, or denim jacket. Try it on before you go out to ensure it hits you just right.

What to Consider

From material to length, here’s all you need to know about shopping for sweater dresses.

Length

Mini

Knee-length and above, a mini dress is great for everyday, from game days to running errands, it’s a sweater dress can be styled with anything from ballet flats to tall boots, and accessorized with a denim jacket, a silk scarf, or a long necklace.

Midi

The in-between, a midi goes from your knee to mid thigh and is best paired with a belt and tall boots for days at the office or drinks with friends. Pro tip: the taller the boot, the better. Avoid showing skin where the dress ends and the boot begins.

Maxi

A longer sweater dress that goes to your ankle or to the ground always makes a statement. It’s a great choice for more formal occasions like fancy dinners and holiday gatherings.

Material & Texture

Cable Knit

A cable knit is one of the warmest, most textured options you can find. Wear it on especially cold days.

Cashmere

The softest, most luxurious option, cashmere is a warm, sophisticated investment.

Wool

Warm and reliable, a wool sweater dress is another warm option. Look for a wool cashmere blend if you’re worried about being itchy.

Ribbed Knit

A tighter, more form-fitting knit, this is a great material for longer sweater dresses.

Neckline

Crewneck

Join the crew. This classic high neckline is ideal for statement necklaces, scarves, and other fun accents.

V-Neck

A classic V-neck lends itself to dainty, everyday jewelry above the neckline or a great belt below.

Turtleneck

Let the turtleneck do the talking. Pair back your accessories and pull your hair back so that this element can really shine.
