The Barbour® Guide
Fall means one thing at Tuckernuck: It’s time to pull out our Barbour! Here, our annual guide to help you select a signature style (or two) for the family.
Barbour has been worn by the royal family in the English countryside, British rockstars at Glastonbury Festival, and our families here in the U.S. for generations.
A MODERN HERITAGE BRAND
Founded in England in 1894, Barbour has remained a family-owned business for 130 years. Outfitting men, women, kids, and even dogs, the brand has built a reputation as one of the highest-quality purveyors of sportswear.
Not only are Barbour jackets designed to last, they are made to be worn from town to country and for many years to come.
First marketed as “Wet Weather Wear” in the company’s mail-order catalog in 1908, Barbour is still known for its original oilskins, or jackets made from waterproof cloth, today. The wax-covered cotton is so durable that the brand promises it will “last for life” and offers patching and re-waxing services to customers internationally.
Barbour sources products from around the globe, but many of the brand’s classic wax jackets are still manufactured by hand in South Shields. This summer, our founders were fortunate enough to visit the factory to see this handiwork in person.
