Meet Tuckernuck Girl, LouLou Baker, the watercolor artist and founder of Peep’s Paper Products. Her company has organically evolved from the holiday cards she created in 2011 to a whimsical world of playing cards, invitations, birth announcements, baby and wedding books and beautiful custom linens. Based in Georgetown, LouLou is a woman about town and we often see her on the go with her son Cape. Our favorite signature LouLou look is her shearling overcoat, aviators and tretorn sneakers. She makes us laugh with her quirky humor and inspires us as a hostess, friend and entrepreneur.

"My mother is a very talented painter and always encouraged the arts. I recently found sets of stationery I created in high school by cutting apart wallpaper samples my mom had and making borders out of it."

"It has been one of the most enjoyable experiences filling in all of the moments that i so quickly forget. We have my husband’s and my MIL was so thorough it has been inspirational and I hope to show and give my son both of the books when/if he has a child."

How did you start Peep’s?

I created a deck of playing cards for the island where my family spends their summers. I made the deck with no intention of ever selling it but it caught on like wildfire on the island and Peep’s was truly born with that deck.

What inspires you?

Decor - I could look at decorating magazines, blogs, instagram forever and get inspired continuously. So many of the floral patterns I have recently created have stemmed from decorating magazines. Mainly Elle Decor.

Have you always been an artist? When did you start painting?

My mother is a very talented painter and always encouraged the arts. I recently found sets of stationery I created in high school by cutting apart wallpaper samples my mom had and making borders out of it.

Why do you love drawing animals so much?

I just love painting animals and turning them into characters for my clients or myself.

Favorite Artist?

Picasso, Tina Barney, Cy Twombly, Velazquez, Eggleston and Walton Ford

How do you approach style and home decor?

I like to be simple but chic - effortlessly chic is always the goal. Home decor I feel similarly - I like simple with hints of personality. I love antiques, floral fabric, wallpaper, and items with stories.

Most treasured item in your home?

Besides the two men it would be my son’s baby book. I am the youngest in my family and never had one so that could play into the creation of the book but it has been one of the most enjoyable experiences filling in all of the moments that i so quickly forget. We have my husband’s and my MIL was so thorough it has been inspirational and I hope to show and give my son both of the books when/if he has a child.

Style / get dressed approach?

In the winter I live in skinny jeans and a cashmere sweater. In the summer I try to wear a dress everyday as it is easy and makes me feel great. Floral dresses are a favorite but nothing beats a summer white.

Words of wisdom to young, working mothers?

Learn to turn off, there are so many precious moments you do not want to miss.

Go to hostess gift?

This may be biased but I think a set of my playing cards and nice bottle of wine are the perfect hostess gift. For a long weekend I would likely bring something monogrammed.
