Tuckernuck friend, Polly married her husband Rob at Rockywold Deephaven Camps (RDC) at Squam Lake, New Hampshire. RDC is often described as “champagne in a tin cup” and their wedding was exactly that. The guests slept in the camp’s rustic cabins where they traded cell phone service for beer-filled canoes and dock dance parties. It was a weekend filled with hydrangeas, birch trees, cocktails and creaky screen doors, which created an ideal lake wedding.
RDC is a family camp, founded in 1897. My dad first attended RDC when he was just 11 years old and kept the tradition alive with his own family. We now have a house on Squam and our growing extended family reconvenes there as much as possible throughout the year.
We had our welcome cocktails at the camp’s Playhouse (a converted old barn) followed by a sit-down summer barbeque and a bluegrass hoedown.
We met through our older sisters(my bridesmaids), who were roommates in college and always wanted us to get married. A few years later we met as undergrads and did our best to fulfill their wishes!
We had our ceremony on Church Island, an outdoor chapel on an island in the middle of the lake.
