Gorgeous and colorful architecture, fabulous shopping, vivacious music, delicious food, warm weather, large beaches and charming soul have made Cartagena a popular destination in recent years. The ancient walled city was built in the 16th century and was named a UNESCO site in the 90’s. It is beautifully kept and full of infectious energy. Our co-founder, recently visited for a long weekend with her friends. Tag along as she maps out her favorite spots below.

WHERE TO STAY

Casa San Agustin

A boutique spa hotel, Casa San Agustín is a colonial-style building that consists of three houses in the old historic center of Cartagena de Indias. It is super charming and has a fabulous restaurant for lunch or dinner, Alma.

Sofitel Santa Clara

The Santa Clara Sofitel is a grand hotel that was once a convent in the 17th century. Glamorous yet charming, this hotel has gorgeous amenities and is a must-see, even if just for cocktails.

Alma

Enjoy al fresco dining in a chic atmosphere and be sure to order the lobster empanadas, fried shrimp wrap and the seafood chowder.

El Boliche

Amazing ceviche, fresh seafood and lite bites, El Boliche is a great spot to grab a relaxing lunch.

Demente

Demente is a romantic restaurant off of a main plaza with white lights and a cool urban vibe. Indulge in pizza from the wood-fire oven and other local fares.

Carmen

Considered one of the best restaurants in Cartagena, Carmen features Colombian flavors and is perfect for a celebratory evening.

Go dancing at Café Havana or La Movida after dinner.

Boat Tour Of The Rosario Islands

Tour the Rosario Islands in a private boat and stop at a local beach for a Coco Loco or lunch at Blue Apple Beach House.

Watch the sunset from Ancient Wall at Café del Mar.

Tour The Walled City

By foot or a horse drawn carriage, take in the Spanish Colonial architecture of Old Cartagena. Venture to the Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas, an ancient fortress.
